Our beginnings actually started back in the 1910s when Captain John Sweeney of the New York City Police Department had the insight to offer inner-city youth some positive experiences, which involved law enforcement. He began the Police Athletic League or PAL knowing that the program would influence the youths significantly. Police involvement and supervision at places of play - ball fields, classrooms, playgrounds engaged the children and helped to position Police Officers as friends.

To promote positive relationships between police officers and youth through community based educational and recreational opportunities.
Vancouver PAL relies on support from the community to fund our programs and on volunteers to continue them. Vancouver PAL is a 501(c)3 organization and your tax deductible donations go directly to helping local youth participate in structured, mentored activities throughout the year. Please consider donating time or money to help Vancouver PAL. The economy has impacted Vancouver PAL and our ability to offer more programs so your continued support during this economic downturn is needed now more than ever.
Vancouver PAL hosts year around, mentored programs for youth of all ages and engages police officers and volunteers to coach, mentor and work with youth. PAL is one of the Vancouver Police Department’s primary crime prevention tools for youth and is also part of the ongoing gang prevention program that the Vancouver Police Department utilizes as part of our community policing plan
